Fix romanian fonts (diacritice/diacritics) on Office 2010 @ Xubuntu 14.04.2 LTS


1. About the issue

I’m guessing you’ve already configured the Keyboard Layout for Romanian.

After installing Microsoft Office 2010 with PlayOnLinux v4.2.7 I’ve had issues with displaying Romanian fonts from documents written on other Windows 7 PC’s.

I was getting squares instead of the proper Romanian letters, specifically the problem was with the letters U+021B, U+021A, U+0218, U+0219 (lowercase & upercase T & S “with comma below”) from the standard character encoding.

Mint 15 KDE – one repo is dead


If you’re trying to access System Updates and it gives you errors like

Failed to fetch http:/packages.medibuntu.org/dists/precise/free/binary-i386/ Packages 404 Not Found

Or even if your trying to get a software or tool that you might need in the Software Manager and right after you type the sudo password, the ‘damn thing’ won’t even open…

Leaving Mate for KDE


Today’s the day I remove Linux Mint 15 Mate from my PC to re-install the L. M. 15 KDE version.

I’ve got a few good reasons for that, firstly, L.M. 15 Mate isn’t that flexible on the theme side, you can only play with the colors a little, and after you do’it you realise it looks like crap.

Hotkey for Sublime text 2+

If your a programmer and you like to use Sublime text to edit your code in UBUNTU, I got one for you.

In the Unity toolbar, go to System settings ➡ Keyboard ➡ Shortcuts

Now the box of shortcuts will appear. To make this in a clean way, go at the bottom element from the list, called Custom shortcuts.

Click on the + (plus) sign. Now type whatever you want in the name, I typed Sublime editor. And this is the important part. At command, type /opt/sublime_text/sublime_text. Read more…

If you can’t Empty the Trash

I’ve had  a problem with my Trash in the last 3 days..

Deleted a file from /opt directory and when i was going in trash to delete it from the menu, I was getting the “You don’t have access” error…

Just found out that you need to go root (obviously) to clear the garbage… lol

Open the terminal and run this command to empty all files and folders stored in Trash:

sudo rm -rf ~/.local/share/Trash/*

Aaaand that’s all !

Setting your workpath (alias) on LAMPP

Hosting files outside the htdocs directory

The document root (web root) directory is located at /opt/lampp/htdocs/. All files placed in this directory will be processed by the web server.

To host other files on your system with XAMPP, you can configure an alias with apache.
